Young drivers find it very hard to get very cheap auto insurance. This is a fact. However, young drivers who take certain time-tested steps get to attract much lower rates That's also another fact. Here are some of the steps that will yield lower rates...
i. Get defensive in your driving. One of the biases against young drivers is that there are poorer and reckless drivers. However, becoming a certified defensive would prove you to be an outlier to this assumption. It gets you a reasonable discount.
ii. Get serious with your studies. If you can prove that you have a GPA of above 3.5 then you can begin to lay claims on what's known as the good student discount (You might want to confirm what your own insurer's eligibility requirements are).
iii. If you can leave with it, pick a very old car and drop collision and comprehensive coverage types on it. This will reduce your coverage amount and also make you get a much lower rate.
